3 Minor Car Repairs You Might Be Able To Do Yourself

Posted on

Most cars will last a long time if they are cared for properly; however, there are a lot of different parts on vehicles that can wear out and need replacement. In many cases, you might encounter minor types of issues with your car that you might be able to complete yourself. If you can, you will save money on labor, because you will only need to purchase the parts. Here are three common car repairs that your car might need that you could possibly do yourself.

Change the wiper blades

Most people do not take their car to an auto repair shop to have the windshield wiper blades changed, but there are a lot of people that will have a car repair shop do this when they are performing other types of services for them. If your car doesn't need any other work but needs new wiper blades, this is a job you could do yourself.

The first step is buying a new set of blades, and you can easily buy the right set by visiting a car parts store. All you have to do is tell them the year, make, and model of the vehicle, and they will sell you the right set. In fact, they may even offer to help you replace the blades if you ask.

Replace the air filter

If your car seems to be using too much gas and not having enough power when accelerating, it could be due to a clogged air filter. Replacing an air filter is considered a standard type of maintenance needed for all vehicles, and it is something that is usually fairly easy to do. You will need to visit a car parts store again to buy the right filter, and then you will be able to replace it yourself.

To do this, look inside your owner's manual for your car or look it up online. You must find out exactly where the air filter is located. Once you do, you can pull it out and put the new one in. It is as simple as that in most cases.

Replace burned out bulbs

A typical vehicle has almost a dozen different exterior bulbs in it, and any of these bulbs can burn out at any time. Luckily, replacing these bulbs is not usually a difficult task. After purchasing the right bulbs, you must determine how to gain access to the bulb. This may require entering through the engine compartment of your vehicle, or you might have to go through the trunk. This will depend on which bulb you are changing. Once you get to it, you and remove the old one and put a new one in.

Repairs like these ones are simple enough for almost anyone to complete, but you might encounter times when your car needs repairs that you cannot complete yourself.
